These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of ForkThis, including the ForkThis web application, any associated mobile applications, and all related features and services (collectively, the "Service").
The Service is operated by Thornveil LLC ("Thornveil," "we," "us," or "our"), a limited liability company. "ForkThis" is a trade name of Thornveil LLC. By accessing or using the Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.
By using the Service, you represent that you are at least 13 years of age (or the age of digital consent in your jurisdiction) and that you have the legal capacity to enter into these Terms. If you are using the Service on behalf of an organization, you represent that you have authority to bind that organization to these Terms.

ForkThis is a recipe and kitchen management application that provides features including:
Certain features — including recipe extraction, image and receipt scanning, meal suggestions, ingredient substitutions, and translation — depend on third-party AI services operated by Anthropic, PBC. Audio transcription of recipe videos is provided by OpenAI, L.L.C. These features may be rate-limited, unavailable, or degraded if those services experience outages. See Section 10 for the full list of third-party services.
Certain features require an account. You can sign up with an email address and password, or — where available — with Google or Apple sign-in. You are responsible for keeping your credentials secure and for all activity that occurs under your account. Notify us promptly at [email protected] if you believe your account has been compromised.
The Service may also be used in guest mode without an account. In guest mode, your data is stored only on your device and is not synchronized to our servers (except content you actively submit to AI-assisted features — see the Privacy Policy). Guest data cannot be recovered by us if lost, cannot be transferred between devices, is erased if you sign out or clear your browser data, and is not merged into an account if you later create one.
You agree to use the Service only for lawful purposes and in a manner that does not infringe the rights of others. You specifically agree not to:

Our property. The Service — including its design, code, user interface, trademarks, and original content — is owned by Thornveil LLC and protected by intellectual property laws. You may not copy, modify, distribute, or create derivative works of the Service without our express written permission.
Your content. You retain ownership of content you input into the Service, including pantry entries, notes, custom recipes, photos, and ratings. By inputting content, you grant Thornveil LLC a limited, non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to host, process, store, transmit, and display that content solely to provide the Service to you, to members of any household or shared cookbook you join or invite others to, and — if you publish a recipe to a public page — to viewers of that page.
Imported content. When you import a recipe from an external URL, you are responsible for ensuring you have the right to save and use that recipe. ForkThis extracts and stores recipe data (ingredients, steps, etc.) for your personal use. We do not claim ownership of imported recipes; the original creators retain their rights. If you choose to publish an imported recipe to a public recipe page, you represent that you have the right to do so. See Section 9 for our copyright complaint process.
The Service uses artificial intelligence to extract, parse, interpret, and generate content — including recipe data, ingredient identification, receipt reading, audio transcription, nutritional estimates, ingredient substitutions, translations, and meal suggestions.
AI output may be inaccurate, incomplete, or wrong. Extracted ingredient quantities, cooking times, temperatures, allergen information, and nutritional values may not match the original source or may be materially incorrect. You are responsible for verifying any AI-generated output before relying on it, particularly where food safety, allergies, or dietary restrictions are involved. See Section 7.
ForkThis is an organizational tool, not a source of professional, medical, nutritional, or dietary advice. Recipes, nutrition estimates, dietary and allergen labels (such as "gluten-free," "vegan," or "dairy-free"), ingredient substitutions, and cooking guidance are generated automatically — including by AI and from third-party sources you choose to import — and may be incomplete, outdated, or inaccurate.
Do not rely on ForkThis for allergy, medical, or special-diet decisions. Dietary and allergen tags are estimates and may be wrong. Always read the full ingredient list yourself, verify against the original source and product packaging, and consult a qualified physician or registered dietitian before relying on any recipe or nutritional information — especially if you or anyone you cook for has a food allergy, intolerance, or medical condition.
Freshness and expiration indicators are estimates based on general shelf-life data and, where you have not entered a date, on category-level guesses. They are not a determination that any specific item is safe or unsafe to consume. Do not rely on the Service to decide whether food is safe to eat — when in doubt, throw it out.
Nutrition figures are estimates only and are not a substitute for product label information. Cooking carries inherent risks (heat, sharp tools, raw or undercooked foods); follow safe food-handling and kitchen practices. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Thornveil LLC is not responsible for any allergic reaction, illness, injury, or other harm resulting from your use of recipes, ingredient substitutions, freshness indicators, nutrition information, or other content in the Service.
Free tier. The free tier includes a limited number of recipe imports and AI features per month (current limits are shown in the app) and unlimited access to pantry tracking, cook mode, meal planning, and grocery lists. The free tier does not require a credit card. Limits may change with reasonable notice.
Plus subscription. ForkThis Plus is a paid subscription at $4.99/month or $39.99/year (or as otherwise stated at the time of purchase) that unlocks unlimited recipe imports and additional features. By subscribing:
Lifetime access. Lifetime purchases are a one-time payment that grants access to all current Plus features for the lifetime of the product. Lifetime does not guarantee access to new features added after purchase, though we intend to include them where feasible.
One-time purchases. We also offer one-time, non-recurring purchases such as recipe import packs, priced as shown at the time of purchase. These do not renew automatically.
Cancellation. You can cancel your subscription at any time, as easily as you signed up: in the app from Settings → Subscription (which links to our payment processor's self-serve billing portal), or — for subscriptions purchased through the Apple App Store or Google Play — in your device's subscription settings. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period, after which you revert to the free tier.
Refunds. Except where required by applicable law, all fees — including subscription fees, Lifetime purchases, and import packs — are non-refundable, and we do not provide refunds or credits for partial billing periods or unused time. If you believe a charge was made in error, contact us at [email protected] within 14 days of the charge and we will review it.
App Store and Google Play purchases. If you subscribe through the Apple App Store or Google Play, that platform's billing policies and refund rules govern your purchase, and cancellations and refunds are handled through the platform. We do not control those processes.
Payment processing is handled by Stripe or PayPal (including Venmo), or by Apple or Google for in-app purchases. We never see or store your full payment card details.
We respect the intellectual property rights of recipe creators, food writers, photographers, and publishers — and we expect our users to do the same. ForkThis lets you import, save, and in some cases share recipes and related content, including images and notes you add. You are responsible for ensuring you have the right to upload, store, or share any content you add to the Service.
Ingredient lists and basic cooking directions are generally not protected by copyright in the United States, but descriptive text, narrative introductions, personal commentary, photographs, and other creative expression accompanying a recipe are protected, and we do not authorize users to reproduce such material.
If you believe content on ForkThis infringes your copyright, you may send a written notice to our designated agent. To be effective, your notice must include:

A postal mailing address for our designated agent is available on request and will be listed here, and in the U.S. Copyright Office's DMCA Designated Agent Directory, once processing is complete.
We will respond to valid notices in accordance with the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA), which may include removing or disabling access to the allegedly infringing material. If your content is removed and you believe the removal was a mistake, you may submit a counter-notice to the same agent. We will terminate, in appropriate circumstances, the accounts of users who are repeat infringers.
Creators: if you would like your website domain or social media account excluded from ForkThis importing, email [email protected] and we will honor the request.
The Service integrates with the following third-party services, each governed by its own terms and privacy policy:
We are not responsible for the practices, availability, or accuracy of third-party services. See the Privacy Policy for what data is shared with each.
We aim for high availability but do not guarantee uninterrupted service. Maintenance, updates, or technical issues may occasionally cause downtime. We will communicate planned maintenance in advance when possible.
You can delete your account at any time from Settings → Account → Delete Account. Account deletion permanently removes your data from our active systems; see the Privacy Policy for details on backups and on shared or published content. Public recipe pages you published remain publicly accessible until you unpublish them or ask us to remove them. Data cached locally on your device remains until you clear your browser data or uninstall the application.
We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service for violations of these Terms, with notice where practicable. Upon termination, your right to use the Service ceases. You may stop using the Service at any time; if you have a subscription, cancellation is governed by Section 8.
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED. WE DISCLAIM ALL WARRANTIES INCLUDING, WITHOUT LIMITATION, IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR FREE OF HARMFUL COMPONENTS. WE DO NOT WARRANT THE ACCURACY OF ANY AI-GENERATED OUTPUT.
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, THORNVEIL LLC AND ITS MEMBERS, MANAGERS, OFFICERS, EMPLOYEES, AND AGENTS SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO LOSS OF DATA, LOSS OF REVENUE, OR PERSONAL INJURY.
IN NO EVENT SHALL THORNVEIL LLC'S TOTAL AGGREGATE LIABILITY TO YOU EXCEED THE GREATER OF (A) THE AMOUNT YOU PAID TO THORNVEIL LLC IN THE TWELVE (12) MONTHS PRECEDING THE CLAIM, OR (B) ONE HUNDRED U.S. DOLLARS ($100).
You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless Thornveil LLC and its members, managers, officers, employees, and agents from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising out of or related to: (a) your use of the Service; (b) your violation of these Terms; (c) your violation of any third-party rights, including intellectual property rights; or (d) any content you import, submit, or publish through the Service.
Please read this section carefully — it affects your legal rights and how disputes between you and us are resolved.
Informal resolution first. If you have a dispute with us, please email [email protected] first. We will try in good faith to resolve it informally. Most concerns can be resolved this way.
Binding arbitration. If we cannot resolve a dispute informally within 60 days, you and Thornveil LLC agree that any dispute, claim, or controversy arising out of or relating to these Terms or your use of the Service will be resolved by binding individual arbitration administered by the American Arbitration Association (AAA) under its Consumer Arbitration Rules, rather than in court — except that either party may bring an individual claim in small-claims court if it qualifies. The arbitration will be conducted in English. This agreement to arbitrate is governed by the Federal Arbitration Act.
Class action waiver. You and Thornveil LLC agree that each may bring claims against the other only in an individual capacity, and not as a plaintiff or class member in any purported class, collective, consolidated, or representative proceeding. The arbitrator may not consolidate more than one person's claims and may not preside over any form of class or representative proceeding.
Your 30-day right to opt out. You may opt out of this arbitration agreement and class action waiver within 30 days of first accepting these Terms by emailing [email protected] with the subject line "Arbitration Opt-Out" and the email address on your account. Opting out will not affect any other part of these Terms.
If any portion of this section is found unenforceable, the remainder will remain in effect — except that if the class action waiver is found unenforceable, this entire arbitration section will be void.
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Illinois and applicable United States federal law, without regard to conflict of law principles. Nothing in this section limits the arbitration agreement in Section 16.
We may update these Terms. Material changes will be communicated via email or in-app notice with at least 14 days' notice before taking effect. Continued use after that date constitutes acceptance.
